NICF Member Code of Conduct

‘Fitter’ Member Code of Conduct

Membership to the National Institute of Carpet and Floorlayers (NICF) is not given lightly or automatically.

On application each member undergoes fitting standard and reputation checks. The NICF only admits fitters to the 'Fitter' category who have provided four references and have successfully completed the relevant written entry exam.

  1. Conduct their businesses lawfully, comply with all relevant legislation and trade fairly and responsibly.
  2. An assurance of the best possible service to all customers.
  3. An assurance and commitment to maintain appropriate insurances.
  4. To offer products and services within relevant current British, European and International Standards.
  5. An assurance and commitment to obtain appropriate and on-going training whenever needed or required.
  6. An assurance that advertising / sales promotions / public relations should comply with current advertising regulations.
  7. Information relating to products, services and prices should be displayed in an easy to understand form complying with current price legislation.
  8. An assurance that all information given to customers should be accurate, truthful and based on full product and service knowledge
  9. The Fitter should carry out all work to the best of their ability advising the customer of any delay or problems.
  10. An assurance that services should be undertaken at an agreed time and date.
  11. The customer should receive adequate guidance on the use, care and maintenance of products.
  12. In the event of a complaint the customer should be dealt with quickly and courteously by the Fitter.
  13. Ensure they continue to meet membership criteria/requirements.

Breach of the code of conduct may result in a review of membership by the NICF Council as per the *NICF Constitution.

  1. *Under section 4e it states that Any member who acts in a manner which in the opinion of the Council is prejudicial to the interest of the Institute, may be reprimanded, suspended or expelled, provided that:-
  2. The Council shall first investigate or cause to be investigated any such conduct of such Member;
  3. and
    the Council shall give such Member proper opportunity to be heard;
  4. and
    any resolution in favour of the suspension or expulsion of a Member shall not be effective unless:
  5. notice of such resolution shall have been given in the agenda for the meeting of the Council at which such resolution is to be considered;
  6. and
    such resolution is carried by a majority of not less than two-thirds of those Members of the Council present and voting.

‘Accredited Fitter’ Member Code of Conduct
